Stone antifouling agents
- This is a stone antifouling agent, which is comprised of a fluorine-containing compound and a silicon compound as main ingredients.
- The fluorine-containing compound forms a very thin antifouling film on the stone surface. Owing to its water-repellent and oil-repellent properties, fouling from the surface can be prevented.
- The silicon compound penetrates into pores of the stone material thereby forming a durable water-repellent layer inside the stone material. Sucking up of an alkaline water derived from construction underlayment (mortar) can be suppressed remarkably well so that troubles such as a wet coloring phenomenon and an efflorescence phenomenon can be prevented. This water-repellent layer is not a film; and thus, permeation of a water vapor is not disturbed.
- Natural color tone and feeling can be obtained in the finished product without impairing characteristic features of a natural stone.

Method: A treating agent (50 cc/m2） is applied on granite (impala black). After curing, fouling ingredients (clockwise direction from the upper right: coffee, sauce, soy sauce, water, orange juice, and olive oil) are dropped; and 24 hours thereafter, they are cleaned with a neutral detergent.
Appearance in the foregoing test is shown at the start of the test, after 24 hours, and after washing by water (from the left). In the treated stone material, no smears remained, demonstrating that this can express an excellent antifouling effect.
Method: A treating agent (50 cc/m2) is applied on granite (impala black). After curing, the bottom of the stone is put in water, and then, depth of the repellent layer to penetrating water was measured from the sucking-up state of water.

Depth of the repellent layer to penetrating water was 5–10 mm, indicating that a wet coloring phenomenon and an efflorescence phenomenon can be prevented extremely well.
